Beyond the ordinary. Built on Observation. Driven by Real Ability.

Finding the right job should not depend on how well someone takes a test—it should be based on how they actually perform, learn, and work.

The Evans Job Matching Tool is designed to match individuals—especially those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing—to real job pathways using visual observation, hands-on tasks, and work behavior analysis. Instead of relying on language-heavy testing, this tool focuses on what truly matters: attention, persistence, independence, accuracy, and response to feedback.

Through structured, nonverbal activities and real-world simulations, users can clearly see their strengths and how they connect to jobs in areas like warehouse work, retail, manufacturing, and skilled trades.

This tool transforms the job search process into a clear, visual, and practical experience—helping individuals make confident career decisions while also supporting better communication with employers and service providers.

I. Identifying Information

II. Deafness, Diagnosis & Communication Profile

III. Support Needs / Functioning

“Higher support” = often described as low functioning, needing more routine, visual supports, and job coaching.

IV. Leiter-3 Scores

Job Match Preview updates automatically when FRI, VSI, or AMI scores change.

V. Interest Areas

Select interest clusters that fit the client; added low-support and routine-based areas help filter more appropriate job matches for clients needing higher support.

Quick tip
Use Higher-Support Preset when the client does best with routine, repetition, visual structure, and step-by-step work.
Tip: you can mix routine-based and higher-level interests together.

VI. Psychosocial Factors (Housing, Transportation, Behavioral Health)

Use this area to summarize real-world barriers and supports. These will be pulled directly into the report and combined with Wayne County / Detroit resource information.

VII. Planned Referrals & Coordination (Check All That Apply)

These checkboxes help auto-fill the VR planning section. You can still edit wording in the final report.

The Leiter International Performance Scale – Third Edition is highly beneficial for Deaf individuals because it is a completely nonverbal cognitive assessment that removes the need for spoken language, reading, or interpreter involvement, allowing for a more accurate and fair evaluation of true cognitive ability. Unlike language-heavy tests such as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale, it eliminates barriers like translation delays and linguistic bias, reducing cognitive overload and preventing invalid results. By focusing on visual reasoning, problem-solving, and attention, the Leiter-3 aligns well with visual learning strengths common in Deaf populations while maintaining standardized administration. This makes it especially useful for generating valid, defensible data that can support clinical understanding, vocational planning, and advocacy without being distorted by language limitations.

WHY WE USE IT

We use the Leiter International Performance Scale – Third Edition because it allows us to assess a person’s true thinking ability without language getting in the way. For Deaf individuals, traditional tests like the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale can produce inaccurate results due to interpreter use, translation delays, and heavy reliance on English. The Leiter-3 removes those barriers by using only visual instructions and responses, which leads to a more fair and valid understanding of problem-solving, attention, and reasoning skills. We also use it because it reduces cognitive overload (no “watch–translate–respond” process), aligns with visual learning strengths, and produces results that are more defensible for clinical, vocational, and advocacy purposes—especially when we need to show ability without language bias.

WHAT THE PROGRAM MEASURES

Through structured observation, the program evaluates:

  • Visual attention and detail tracking
  • Ability to follow modeled (nonverbal) instruction
  • Task persistence and endurance over time
  • Work pace and tolerance for repetition
  • Response to correction and supervisor feedback
  • Flexibility when rules or tasks change
  • Level of independence vs. need for support

Why This Model Is Necessary

Traditional assessments often rely on:

  • Spoken instructions
  • Interpreter mediation
  • Language-heavy tasks

These introduce validity concerns for Deaf individuals, including:

  • Construct distortion
  • Increased cognitive load from interpretation
  • Lack of appropriate normative comparisons

This program removes those barriers by:

  • Using visual-first instruction
  • Eliminating language dependency
  • Measuring direct work performance instead of abstract reasoning
